Protect yourself against meningitis before starting university
Millers Pharmacy is proud to offer the NHS MenB (Meningitis B) vaccination programme for eligible young people from 20 July 2026.
Meningococcal group B (MenB) disease is a rare but serious bacterial infection that can cause meningitis and sepsis. Young adults starting university and living in shared accommodation are at increased risk, which is why the NHS is offering this vaccination programme.
If you're eligible, you can receive two doses free of charge through the NHS at participating Millers Pharmacy branches.
Who is eligible?
You may be eligible for a free NHS MenB vaccine if you are:
Year 13 students
-
Born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008.
New undergraduate students
You are under 25 and:

Starting an undergraduate degree for the first time in Autumn 2026, or
-
Moving into university or further education accommodation (such as halls of residence) for the first time.
This includes:

UK students
-
International students
-
Students from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

Students from the Crown Dependencies

Who is not eligible?
The NHS programme does not include:

Returning undergraduate students

Postgraduate students
-
Anyone not entering higher education for the first time in Autumn 2026

People who have already completed a recent course of MenB vaccination (within the last five years)

How many doses will I need?
The NHS MenB vaccination course consists of two doses.

Your second dose should be given at least 28 days after the first.

We recommend booking your first appointment as early as possible to ensure you complete the course before starting university.
Our team will remind you when your second dose is due.

This is a time-limited NHS vaccination programme.

First doses are available until 31 December 2026

Second doses can be given until 31 March 2027
Appointments are expected to be in high demand before the university term begins, so early booking is recommended.
Why have the MenB vaccine?

Although uncommon, meningococcal group B disease can become life-threatening within hours.
