Emergency Contraception
Emergency contraception when you need it
If you’ve had unprotected sex, a condom has failed, or you’ve missed your usual contraception, emergency contraception can help prevent pregnancy.
There are two main types of emergency contraceptive pill:
Levonorgestrel - Can be taken up to 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex.
Ulipristal acetate - Can be taken up to 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex.
The sooner emergency contraception is used, the more effective it is. Our pharmacist will have a confidential conversation with you and recommend the most appropriate option.
The copper coil (IUD) is the most effective form of emergency contraception and can also be used up to 5 days after unprotected sex. If this is the best option for you, we can explain how to access your local sexual health service.
Emergency contraception is available free through the NHS at participating pharmacies.

Period Delay
Delay your period for a holiday or special occasion
Sometimes your period arrives at exactly the wrong time.
If you have an upcoming holiday, wedding, religious event, sporting event or another important occasion, our period delay service may be able to help.
Following a short confidential consultation, our pharmacist can assess whether norethisterone is suitable for you.
It is usually started 3 days before your period is expected and can temporarily delay your period. Your period will usually return within a few days of stopping the tablets.
Important: Period delay tablets are not a contraceptive and will not prevent pregnancy.
Norethisterone is not suitable for everyone, so we’ll ask about your medical history and any medicines you take before providing treatment.
